“Furnace Oil”

Here’s another sneak peak to another short story I’m working on. The idea for it came about yesterday when my wife and I were filling up our own furnace oil tank. Enjoy!

He began to make his way towards the basement door when he stumbled over another of his cats. Squealing the cat ran underneath the dining room table for cover. Matt cursed but wasted no time on the cat and his feet thudded against the wooden steps descending into the unfinished basement. He passed his workout bench and assorted weights scattered over the floor making his way to the furnace oil tank.

Matt leaned forward to read the gauge and immediately felt his blood pressure rise.

“How the fuck can you be empty if we just put in $200 worth of oil a few days ago?” Matt said.

Turning away from the tank Matt began to storm towards the stairs when–

Stopping in mid stride, Matt turned and looked back at the oil tank.

Did that come from inside?

Here’s a great chance to help out some fantastic Canadian creative talent!

Sneak peak of a new story I’m working on!

As the title suggests, here is the first few lines from a new story I’m working on. More than likely this will end up being a piece of flash fiction.

Sinus Infection

Ray Rasmussen woke up with a start, gasping for breath although he did not know why. He had dreamt that he had been having sexual intercourse with an alien but the dream was not frightening and should not have left him gasping for air. As he thought about it he realized that the act was not sexy by any means but rather the act for procreation; pure unemotional sex. He sat up and could feel some pressure in his sinuses but his mind was still focused on his dream trying to make sense of it all.

Who had wanted to procreate? He thought. Was it him? Or was it the alien?

Another thought penetrated into his head, one that he felt was important to ask.

Why was he dreaming of fucking an alien in the first place?

Legends of Urban Horror: A Friend of a Friend Told Me

You should definitely check out this anthology and not just because my short story “Marrow” is in it. A lot of great authors are in this one each with unique and dark tales of folklore.

Legends of Urban Horror: A Friend of a Friend Told Me

We’ve all come across them. The warnings told by a friend of a friend – don’t go in there, I wouldn’t if I were you, did you hear about…? Or perhaps your mind leaps to the cryptozoological realm – creatures barely glimpsed, and yet to be identified. Other spheres of existence – they can’t be real… certainly not until you’ve experienced one!

Maybe the real horror lies in the minds and hearts of others just like you. People with a slightly bent perspective that feed on the fear in others. Twisted souls that would take advantage of the weak, or vulnerable. Those who believe they are doing good for a higher power, or to gain power simply for themselves. Petty vengeance that breathes a life of its own once unleashed.

Whatever your poison, the ten stories in Legends of Urban Horror:  A Friend of a Friend Told Me are sure to intrigue, and perhaps bring back fears long forgotten.

Run, don’t look back… or should you?

First post of 2013/Carnage: After the End – Volume 2

I’ve gotten really behind with posting (I think I start every post with that) and so I thought I’d throw a small post in while promoting the fantastic anthology by Sirens Call Publications, Carnage: After the End – Volume 2.

For me 2012 was a fantastic year. Not only did I get married but I also committed myself to writing the kinds of stories I love to read. I self published a few stories on Smashwords (all FREE for download at and also got published by a few publications. I’ve met (through social media) some fantastic writers and editors who help keep the fire lit under my ass.

I have set some goals for 2013:

1) Actually sell a story.

2) Write and FINISH a novel/novella.

3) Make some more contacts within the writing world.

4) Help promote the work of others.

I believe that all of those are obtainable and there’s no set order in which I hope to accomplish those. Well, enough of about me.

Carnage: After the End – Volume 2

Hell has invaded Earth and happy endings are a thing long since forgotten.

The ten stories in Carnage: After the End – Volume 2 tell of the frighteningly horrific and cruel lives the survivors must face. Each one takes us to a place where humanity’s stragglers are forced to battle for their very existence against their own grim reality; creatures from different worlds or times, individuals or groups of miscreants who feed on the fear of the weak, and even the terrifying threat of unknown bacterial organisms. Their will to go on diminishing among the tatters of the civilization they once knew.

In a world where society has collapsed and terror lurks around every corner, no one can be trusted and nothing can be taken for granted.

The Apocalypse has come, leaving in its wake small pockets of survivors battling to stay alive; each carving out a new beginning for mankind…

Contributing Authors in Volume 2 include

Angel D. Callido, Charlie Fish, Harper Hull, Magda Knight, Jason Lairamore, Harry Manners, Zachary O’Shea, Wednesday Silverwood, Adrian Tchaikovsky, and L.E. White.
